Using the New Outlook for Mac features in business environments
Dear Christina S
Welcome, and thank you for sharing your concerns on the Q&A forum.
We understand the importance of maintaining consistency with your organization’s branding standards, and we appreciate your diligence in attempting to resolve this matter.
Following the recent update to the New Outlook on macOS, it has been observed that Calibri Light is no longer available as a selectable option in the default font settings under:
Settings > Fonts > New email
Settings > Fonts > Reply or forward
While the font remains accessible during manual composition and within the preview list, it currently cannot be designated as the default font through the standard configuration interface due to how the application is currently designed.
We recommend the following steps to further investigate and potentially address the configuration challenge:
Verify Font Installation: Ensure that all Calibri font variants, including Calibri Light (calibril.ttf), are correctly installed via Font Book and located in the appropriate system font directories.
- Clear Cache: Clearing the cache can often resolve various display and configuration concerns with Outlook for MacOS. Please refer to the Microsoft Support links provided for instructions:
- Configure Font via Outlook Web App (OWA): Visit https://outlook.office.com/, navigate to Settings > Mail > Compose and reply, and attempt to set Calibri Light as your default font there. This configuration may synchronize with your desktop application.
- Set Font Preferences via Outlook Settings: If Outlook is open on your Mac, follow the steps below to access the font panel: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/change-font-sizes-in-outlook-for-mac-b225d877-1449-4757-9ee7-120d1c5da6b4
- Accessing the Fonts panel:
- In the menu bar, open the Outlook drop-down menu and select Settings.
- In the Outlook Settings pane, select Fonts.
- In the Fonts panel that appears, make a note of the message types for which you can set the font settings. Set your font preferences:
- Select the message type for which you want to change the font settings. The Preview option is a simple list for selecting fonts. For New Email and Replies or Forward, select Font... to continue.
- Use the Font panel that appears to select one of the available default options. Typical choices are simply font and size.
- Select Advanced to make more detailed typographic settings. Otherwise, select OK to simply apply the changes and return to Outlook
- The New Outlook for Mac currently manages font styles in a way that prevents variants (e.g., Light, Bold) from being set as the default via the selection menu. This represents the current structure of the application and may affect other fonts as well.
- Reverting Version: Did this begin to occur after an Outlook update? If so, you might consider reverting back to a previous version by downloading it from the reference link below. If the New Outlook continues to present configuration challenges, you could also switch back to the Legacy Outlook version, which may handle font settings differently.
- Please be aware that this topic has been reported within the user community, and Microsoft has confirmed that their team is actively investigating this behavior to develop a suitable solution. At this time, they are unable to provide an exact timeline for the change, but all solutions will be released through future updates.
We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to identify a suitable resolution. Please feel free to contact us if you require further support after attempting the troubleshooting steps above.
