Hello James Besancon, thanks for posting this in our community.

The error you're encountering usually means that BitLocker has entered recovery mode because Windows detected a change or issue during startup. If you're stuck at the BitLocker screen, you can try forcing Windows into the Recovery Environment. To do this, power on your PC and as soon as the spinning dots appear, hold the power button for about 5 to 10 seconds to force a shutdown. Repeat this process twice. On the third boot, Windows should enter the Recovery Environment.

Once you're in the Recovery Environment, you can try using Startup Repair or other recovery options available there.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli

I enter the correct recovery key in Bitlocker, it appends a hyphen after the last group of numbers, and nothing seems to react to being selected.

The E_FVE_USER_REQUESTED_RECOVERY error message in BitLocker indicates that the user has explicitly entered recovery mode. This can happen if you select an option to enter recovery mode during the boot process. To resolve this issue, you typically need to provide the BitLocker recovery key to unlock the drive.

If you are rolling back a major feature update, ensure that you have the recovery key available. After entering the recovery key, you should be able to access your system normally. If you continue to experience issues, consider checking the BitLocker settings or looking for any changes that may have occurred during the update that could affect the drive's encryption status.
