My adult son would like his xbox account and games transferred to his own account. How do I do that.

Transferring Xbox games from one account to another is not directly supported by Microsoft. Each game and digital content is tied to the specific Xbox account that purchased it. However, there are a couple of options you can consider:

  1. Home Console Sharing: If your son's account is set as the home console for the account that purchased the games, he can access those games on his account without needing to transfer them. You can set this up by going to Settings > Personalization > My home Xbox on the Xbox console.
  2. Game Sharing: If both accounts are on the same console, you can enable game sharing, which allows both accounts to access the games purchased on either account. This is done by ensuring that the account that owns the games is signed in on the console.
  3. Purchase Games on the New Account: If the games need to be owned by the new account, the simplest method is to purchase the games again on the new account.

Unfortunately, there is no way to transfer ownership of games between accounts directly.

    Dear Nolan Lotton

Thank you for your question and for sharing the details in Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I completely understand you’d like to help your adult son enjoy the Xbox games and subscriptions you’ve purchased. Let me walk you through the options available.

Unfortunately, Xbox games and licenses are tied to the account that purchased them and cannot be transferred to another account. I noticed the previous response you received was quite accurate and helpful. After reviewing those options, I’d like to share a few additional details that might make things clearer for you:

For more details about Home Console Sharing: How home Xbox and game sharing work | Xbox Support

    1. Shared Content Limitations

    • Be aware that certain content types like add-ons may not transfer.
    • Sharing will depend on both accounts being on the same Home console.

    2. Game Pass Sharing

    • If you have Xbox Game Pass, your son can still enjoy the games through that subscription on his new account as long as he’s using the Home console.
    • Game Pass benefits (including Game Pass Ultimate) will be available to anyone playing on your Home Xbox.
    • Full details here: Sharing your Xbox Game Pass subscription | Xbox Support

Please note: Game progress and achievements are tied to the individual account and cannot be moved.

Thank you for being part of the Xbox community, we’re here to make sure you and your family have the best gaming experience possible.
