How to delete developer account?

Hello.

I retired 4 years ago and can't seem to get my old address off my Microsoft account. It says I cannot delete that address because it's associated with my developer account. I've bounced around Microsoft's support multiple times and nobody seems to be able to help. Usually the options they say to click are just not on the page. I really don't need the developer account anymore at all. Does anyone know how to delete it?

To delete your developer account, you need to contact support. Developer accounts do not expire, so if you no longer need your account, reaching out to Microsoft support is the best way to proceed. They will guide you through the process of closing your account.

When you close your account, keep in mind that:

    1. Your app's current customers can still use the app, but they won't be able to make in-app purchases.
    2. Your app listing will be removed from the Microsoft Store, and new customers won't be able to acquire your app.
    3. The app's name will be released for potential use by another developer.
    4. If you have a balance due from previous app sales, you can request payment for that balance even if it doesn't meet the standard payment threshold.

Make sure to back up any important data before proceeding with the deletion, as this action is irreversible.

    Hi Brian Kiser

Thank you for posting your question in Microsoft Q&A.

The reason you’re unable to remove the old address is that it’s associated with your Microsoft Developer account. To fully remove this address, the Developer account must be closed first.

To close your developer account, please sign in to the Partner Center Support portal: Partner Center and submit a support request with the following details:

    • State clearly that you want to close your developer account and remove any associated address from your Microsoft account.
    • Include your Publisher/Developer ID and the email address linked to the Developer account.

After closure, all apps will be removed from the Microsoft Store, and your app names will be released. You can also claim any pending payouts and once the account is closed, the old address will no longer be locked and can be removed from your Microsoft account.

    Notes:

    • Please understand this process may require escalation to backend systems, so please keep the case number provided by support and follow up if needed.
    • If the address still appears after closure, inform the support team so they can complete the removal.

I hope these suggestions provide some helpful ideas. If you need further assistance, feel free to ask via comments section.

Took be a bit to find the 'Delete Profile'; however, as of December 2025 you can find it by signing into your Developer Program account and navigating to your Dashboard. It is on the top right of the page:

To note for those who need to set one back up again, it looks like it will take 60 days to set up a new subscription if you had one previously:

"It may take up to 24 hours for the changes to appear on the site".
