To unblock macros in Excel, you can follow these steps depending on the scenario:

    1. Individual Files:
      • Right-click on the file, select Properties, and then check the Unblock checkbox on the General tab.
      • Alternatively, you can use the Unblock-File cmdlet in PowerShell to remove the Mark of the Web from the file.
    2. Files on a Network Share or Trusted Website:
      • Unblock the file using the same methods as for individual files. If there isn't an Unblock checkbox, you can designate the location as a Trusted site or add it to the Local intranet zone.
    3. Files on OneDrive or SharePoint:
      • Open the file using the Open in Desktop App option. If you download the file locally, ensure to remove the Mark of the Web from the local copy as mentioned above.
    4. Macro-Enabled Template Files:
      • If you trust the source of the template file, remove the Mark of the Web and then reopen the template in Excel.
    5. Using Digital Signatures:
      • If you have a group of users needing to use macro-enabled templates, consider using a digital signature and trust the publisher or save the template file to a Trusted Location.

By following these steps, you should be able to unblock macros in Excel successfully.

    Hello @Giang Kieu Thuy,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Macros in Excel are disabled by default for security reasons, especially for files downloaded from the Internet or email. If you need to unblock macros, please follow these steps:

To Unblock Macros, please try these steps below:

    1/ Enable Content in Excel

Open the file > Look for the yellow Security Warning bar > Click Enable Content.Macros disabled warning bar

In the Security Warning dialog, select Yes to make the document trusted.

    Trusted document security warning

2/ Unblock the File in Windows

Close Excel > Right-click the file > Properties > Check Unblock > Apply > Reopen Excel.

    3/ Adjust Trust Center Settings

Go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Macro Settings.

Recommended: Select Disable macros with notification (allows enabling macros case by case).

Avoid Enable all macros unless absolutely necessary (high security risk).

    4/ Add a Trusted Location

In Trust Center Settings > Trusted Locations > Add new location > Choose the folder where macro files are stored.

    5/ Check Organization Policies

If macros remain blocked, your IT admin may have applied Group Policy restrictions. Contact your IT department for assistance.

Only enable macros for files from trusted sources. Enabling all macros globally is not recommended.

Reference: Enable or disable macros in Microsoft 365 files

If this does not work, please let us know and clarify:

    • Are you trying to enable macros for all workbooks or just a specific file?
    • Do you have admin rights on your device, or is this managed by your IT team?
    • Is your goal to permanently allow macros or just unblock them temporarily for one session?

We appreciate your kind patience and understanding that sometimes the initial response may not immediately resolve the issue or there may be some misunderstandings about your scenario, but we would love to hear updates from you and find out further suggestions.

    Best Regards.
