It sounds like you are experiencing issues with specific key combinations on your Surface Laptop 7. The behavior you described, where pressing Shift + @ results in typing " and Shift + hash not functioning as expected, could be related to keyboard layout settings or a potential hardware issue.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot:

    1. Check Keyboard Layout: Ensure that your keyboard layout is set correctly for your region. You can switch between installed keyboard layouts by pressing the Windows logo key + Spacebar, or selecting them from the system tray.
    2. Update Drivers: Make sure your OEM drivers are up to date. You can check for updates in Settings > Windows Update.
    3. Test in Different Applications: Try using the keys in different applications to see if the issue persists across all programs.
    4. On-Screen Keyboard: You can also try using the On-Screen Keyboard (OSK) to see if the keys work there, which can help determine if it's a hardware issue.
    5. Feedback Submission: If the problem continues, consider submitting feedback through the Windows Feedback Hub, detailing the specific behavior and the applications where the issue occurs.

If the issue is hardware-related, you may need to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance or consider a warranty claim if applicable.

    Hi @Vinod Kaushik

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding your issue, your Surface Laptop 7 keys (Shift + 2 and Shift + 3) are typing the wrong characters because the keyboard layout is set incorrectly.

    • US layout: Shift + 2 = @, Shift + 3 = #
    • UK layout: Shift + 2 = ", Shift + 3 = £

This is a software setting, not a hardware fault.

Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Check your keyboard layout:
    • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region.
    • User's image
    • Under Preferred languages, check if it's US or UK.
    • User's image
    • Confirm the Keyboard layout (e.g., US vs UK).
    • User's image
    1. Switch to the correct layout:
    • If you want US layout: Add English (United States) and remove UK layout.
    • If you want UK layout: Keep English (United Kingdom).
    • User's image
    • Restart or sign out/in, then test Shift + 2 and Shift + #.

For more details, please refer to: Manage the language and keyboard/input layout settings in Windows

    Check your keyboard language settings

If the keys don’t type anything at all (not even wrong characters), then it could be a hardware problem, and you should contact Microsoft Surface warranty for a replacement.

Hopefully it will help work with your issue and if you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.
