User tagging issues within a channel when sharing an email from Outlook.

Good morning Microsoft team,

When I am in the process of sharing an email from Outlook to a Teams channel and try to tag a user within that channel in the composition box, they are highlighted blue (@Username), but once the post is made, the user I tried to tag just becomes plain text. I want to know if this is a bug or by design. I wondered if it is a bug due to the fact that the user shows as being tagged up until the post is officially submitted. If this is not a bug, will this ever be resolved in future updates? Thank you.

    Hi Siddall Andrew

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, the tagging feature within a Teams channel does not properly link users when sharing an email from Outlook. We appreciate the time you took to share this detailed observation and your effort in testing the behavior before reaching out.

In the current experience, @mentions activate only for messages created inside Teams. When Outlook shares an email to a channel, it is posted as an email card, and that format does not convert the @Username markup into an active mention after submission. The highlight you see in the composer reflects formatting recognition, but it does not create a notification for the tagged person.

    To notify people effectively:

    1. Share the email to the channel.
    2. In Teams, select Reply under that post and @mention the person so they receive a notification.
    3. Or start a New conversation in the channel, include key details or a link to the shared email, and @mention the person.
    4. For direct attention, share to a chat with the person and @mention them, including the link to the channel post.

Alternatively, as a forum moderator, I hope you understand that I don’t have the ability to modify or escalate product issues directly. However, I strongly recommend submitting your feedback through the Microsoft Teams · Community. This is the most effective way to ensure your voice reaches the product team and can be considered about how company-only contacts are handled in search results, with potential improvements being considered for future improvements.

You've clearly identified a real-world challenge, and your suggestion reflects a deep understanding of user needs - feedback like yours is truly valuable and helps shape the future of Microsoft team.

Sharing your experience through this channel is one of the most effective ways to advocate for improvements that benefit both you and the broader community.
