Copilot App on Windows 11 does not recognise Mic, i have checked privacy settings and authorised mic access. It works ok if i use Copilot on Microsoft Edge.

You can try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Option 1: Check App Permission

Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure that the toggle for the Copilot app is turned on.

Option 2: Repair and Reset the App

Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Copilot app, click the three dots and select Advanced options, scroll down and choose Repair (If the issue still persists, select Reset).

Option 3: Update Driver

Go to Device Manager > Audio inputs and outputs. Right-click your microphone (such as Realtek Audio), select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers. Restart your PC after completing the update.

Option 4: Uninstall and Reinstall the Copilot App

Update the Copilot app from the Microsoft Store and restart your PC to apply any microphone-related patches.

I have done as you suggested but the Copilot App still doesn't work. It works fine if I use it through Microsoft Edge. When I click on the Microphone icon a message displays - "I cant hear you. Try speaking again or check your Mic".

I am using a USB Mic but I I have also tried another Mic connected into my motherboards 3.5mm Mic input socket and the same message appears.

It use to work fine up to about a month ago.

You can try Network Reset:

Open Settings.

Select Network & internet.

Scroll down and choose Advanced network settings.

Select Network reset > click Reset now.

Restart your device after the reset is complete.

Hi,

I have done the Network Reset and Copilot App still doesn't work, although Copilot on Edge works fine.

Thank you for your response. You can try this way:

Change DNS to 8.8.8.8 – 8.8.4.4 or 1.1.1.1 Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi/Ethernet > Properties > Edit IP settings > select Manual > enter Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8 and Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4 (or 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1), then save the changes.

Besides that, try logging out and logging back in to see if the issue is resolved.

I have changed the DNS settings as you suggested and I still get the same message - "I cant hear you. Try speaking again or check your Mic"

Hi Andrew Holmes,

You can try in place upgrade to see if the issue is resolved.

Go to the Windows 11 website: Download Windows 11

Under Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO), select Windows 11 (Multi-Edition ISO)

Once the ISO is finished downloading, right-click on the ISO and click on Mount, then click on Setup.exe

You might be prompted by User Account Control. In this case, click Yes

In the Install Windows 11 dialog box, click Next

The installer will check your PC and display a license agreement. Click Accept in the license terms dialog box

Wait for the installer to check the available free space

On the Ready to install page, make sure that the Keep personal files and apps option is checked

Then, click on Install and simply follow the instructions

Windows 11 will restart your device several times and take you to the lock screen. Depending on the options you set, it will keep all your files, apps, and user accounts.

I have the same issue as (Moderator note: Removed PII) and found this topic to see if it s a known issue. The troubleshooting suggestions seem ridiculous bar the first one. Changing DNS, resetting network settings seem unrelated.. Why would you suggest an in place Windows 11 upgrade to resolve this microphone issue? The Microphone works in Edge it's just the Copilot app that has a problem using it..

Regarding why I suggested an in‑place upgrade: it is one of the most reliable methods to repair system components, app permissions, and Copilot‑related dependencies without affecting personal data.

I don't think changing the DNS settings will make any difference but i have done as suggested anyway and Copilot App still doesn't work although the Microphone works in Edge so no change.

Scroll down the page until you see and click on the "Contact Support" option.

When prompted to select your product or service, choose "Other Products".

Look for and click on "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".

Copilot App is now suddenly working, i guess it was an update needed as all the troubleshooting didn't work, :)
