    Dear Dennise Peters-Colley

Welcome and thank you for sharing your issue in the Q&A forum!

Based on the information you provided, here are the steps you need to follow to install Microsoft Office version 16.88. Please note that Office 16.88 requires macOS 12 Monterey or later. If your Mac is running an older version of macOS, you will not be able to install 16.88.

First, you must check your macOS version:

    • Go to Apple Menu >> About This Mac.
    • If your version is below macOS 12, your current system does not support Office 16.88.

In this case, you need to perform one of the following mandatory actions:

    • Upgrade macOS to meet the requirement:
    • Back up all your data.
    • Go to System Preferences >> Software Update and upgrade to Monterey or later.
    • After upgrading, remove the old Office version and install 16.88.
    • If you cannot upgrade macOS, you must install an older Office version that is compatible with your current system.

Remove the old Office version before installing

    • Close all Office apps.
    • Open Finder >> Applications, then drag Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook to Trash.
    • Go to ~/Library/Containers and ~/Library/Group Containers to delete Microsoft-related folders.

Download and install the new version

After updating or rolling back, to prevent automatic updates:

    • Go to Word >> Help >> Check for Updates
    • Uncheck Automatically download and install

Update: After reviewing John's given article, it seems that my instruction was similar to John as well. If that is the case, may I know if you have any updates from your end after checking on John's suggestion? Were you able to install Office ver 16.88 on your Mac Pro Monterey 12.7.6 ?
I hope this information is helpful! If you have any further questions or need additional support, please don’t hesitate to reach out, I’m here to help.
