Azure Hardware Availability for SAP

We went through the KBA 1928533 - SAP Applications on Microsoft Azure: Supported Products and Azure VM types.

We as customers are interested to upgrade from  Esv3-series to Esv6-series for our SAP EWM system.

How ever the note does not provide information on availability of this new hardware Esv6-series

We contacted Azure on this - and confirm that SAP ECS-Azure only has Esv5-series  and  Esv6-series  is still not available for customers.

Our question to AZURE Community :  ------------------------

1.) Esv6-series  Azure VM's available for customers ? If Yes, from when have you made it available to end users ?

2.) Why is Azure saying that - v6 VM's have still not been released to customers ? What are the expected dates for the release ?

3.) Why can't I see the Esv6-series hardware in the Azure portal for a switch with the current hardware
Esv3-series ?

    Hey Mahesh Krishna,

Thank you for reaching out Q/A. you're running into some confusion regarding the availability of the Esv6-series Azure VMs for your SAP EWM system. Let's break down your questions.

Availability of Esv6-series VMs: Currently, it appears that the Esv6-series VMs are not available for customers yet based on Azure's communication. Therefore, if you’re looking to upgrade from Esv3 to Esv6, it seems you’ll have to wait until they are released.

Reason for Azure's Statement: Azure’s indication that Esv6-series is not released may be due to it still being in the testing or rollout phase. Unfortunately, there's no specific release date provided in the documentation. It might help to check directly with Azure support for the most up-to-date status on the timeline for availability.

Visibility in Azure Portal: The absence of the Esv6-series in your Azure portal could be due to it not being rolled out to your subscription or region yet. Typically, new VM sizes are gradually made available and can sometimes take a while before they're visible to all users.

To help further with your situation, here are some follow-up questions you could consider asking Azure support or the community:

Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any queries in comments.

    Hello Hemalatha,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. The confusion arises because, in my Azure subscription I don't see the Esv6-Series hardware .. I can only see the Esv5-Series.

As a customer why would we pay the same price for an old hardware ? Especially when the Esv6-Series provides 30% more compute power over its previous generation.

SAP's statement and general press release Feb 2025 says, the hardware is available from Azure for SAP products. But both SAP and Azure have not mentioned any date or time line on this. Its been 10 months since the press release.

The other major area I'm confused is ..
If I go to the azure portal as a NEW CUSTOMER - ( not logged into my subscription )
    For my region - ( Europe ) - Azure offers - Esv6 series hardware for purchase !!
    How is that possible ?

Can you check the attachment - am I missing something crucial there ?
Azure support do not answer questions about new hardware - they already closed couple of my tickets. That's why I turned to the community to understand - if the new hardware series is available.

    Thanks
    MK
