My Microsoft 365 tenant is federated with GoDaddy. I cannot access admin support because of the federation. I need the tenant defederated so I can manage Microsoft 365 directly.

    Dear @Richard Jeffers

    Welcome to the Q&A Community.

Thank you for reaching out regarding your Microsoft 365 tenant that is currently federated with GoDaddy.

When a tenant is federated through GoDaddy, authentication and certain administrative functions are managed by GoDaddy’s identity provider. This means Microsoft cannot directly remove the federation or grant full admin access until the federation is changed.

    What needs to happen:

    • The domain must be converted from Federated to Managed Authentication.
    • This process can only be initiated by GoDaddy since they control the federation settings.

    Here are the recommended steps:

    • Contact GoDaddy Support and request defederation of your Microsoft 365 tenant.
    • Once GoDaddy completes the process, you will regain full control of your tenant through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
    • After defederation, you can manage authentication directly with Microsoft or configure your own identity provider if needed.

Please note that forum moderators do not have access to user account settings and cannot assist with logging in, resetting passwords, or changing access rights. While we do not have access to internal systems or administrative tools required to resolve account-specific or backend-related issues but we’ll continue doing our best to support you within the scope of our responsibilities.
I hope this helps you regain access to your account quickly. I'm glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.

To defederate your Microsoft 365 account from GoDaddy, you will need to follow specific steps. Since you are unable to access admin support due to the federation, it is recommended to contact GoDaddy support directly. They can assist you in releasing your custom domain from the Microsoft 365 tenant, which is necessary for the defederation process.

Here are the general steps you should follow:

    1. Contact GoDaddy support and request the release of your custom domain from the Microsoft 365 tenant.
    2. Be aware that releasing the domain may temporarily disrupt your email services, so confirm the impact with GoDaddy before proceeding.
    3. After your custom domain is released, you can sign in using the default Microsoft admin account format: ******@NETORG123456789.onmicrosoft.com, replacing the ID with your actual tenant ID.
    4. If you do not know the password, use the Forgot my password option to reset it.

If you encounter any issues during this process, contacting GoDaddy support will be crucial for ensuring that the defederation is completed correctly.
