Excel: Ctl+Shift+V mapped to External Connection Options dialog

Since the new version of Excel was released earlier this week consolidating menus, somehow Ctl+Shift+V is double-mapped. It performs Paste(Unformatted) the same way as it has for about 2 years now. But it also brings up a dialog for connecting to external data sources or APIs. This dialog is so new that I can't find a single reference to it online. No idea how to make it appear besides Ctl+Shift+V. The mapping must be a glitch.image

This is obviously undesirable, especially so because no other excel function can be done until the dialog is closed. Is there a way to adjust the mapping of Ctl+Shift+V so it does not bring up this dialog? Any other fix?

    Hi @excelOG,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

According to your concern, the Connection page you shared isn’t a built‑in Excel dialog. It highly comes from an Add‑in that has set Ctrl+Shift+V to its Connection Options command. Since the Ctrl+Shift+V is a by-design shortcut keys for Match Destination Formatting Paste Value which can't be edited, when you use the shortcut, the add‑in also receives the command and opens its connection dialog.

I suggest you can try following these steps to verify the issue:

    • Press Windows + R to open Run dialog box and type excel /safe > press OK to run.

    • Try using Ctrl Shift V there. If it works normally, the problem is confirmed to be due to an add-in.
    • Then and go to File > Options > Add-ins > select Excel Add-ins > Go > uncheck all listed add-ins and click OK. Repeat the same steps with the COM add-ins

    • Restart Excel and check if the issue is gone. Then re-enable the add-ins one by one and restarting Excel each time to find which one causing the error.

I hope this information will be useful to you. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works. If you have any news about this issue, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or need additional help, please feel free to ask them in the comments so that I can continue to support you.

    Looking forward to your response.
