Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
Currently, New Outlook does not support exporting files or folders directly to a .pst file as Classic Outlook does. The functionality for exporting data, such as a single message, a group of messages, or folders, is limited in New Outlook. Here are some important points to consider:
- PST File Management: The only supported way to control or restrict access to PST files in New Outlook is through the OwaMailboxPolicy OutlookDataFile parameter. Administrators should set this policy to allow users to manage PST files effectively.
- Exporting Data: If you need to export mailbox data to a .pst file, you will typically need to use the Exchange Management Shell with the
MailboxExportRequestcmdlet. This method allows you to export data from mailboxes to .pst files, but it is not directly available through the New Outlook interface. - Alternatives: If you require the ability to export specific messages or folders, consider using Classic Outlook, which provides these features. Alternatively, you can synchronize your data with Microsoft Exchange Server, which allows access to your mailbox data across different clients.
- Limitations: Be aware that New Outlook may have more restrictive behavior regarding PST files due to its reliance on classic Outlook's MAPI components. Therefore, if you intend to manage PST files, ensure that the relevant policies are correctly configured to avoid conflicts.
In summary, for exporting data to .pst files, you may need to rely on Classic Outlook or use Exchange PowerShell commands, as New Outlook does not currently offer this functionality directly.
