Hello Support,

i have a Winodws Server 2016 Essential. All of a sudden one of the users cannot connect remotely to her workstation. i have run http:\server\connect and it goes through without any problems. But on the dashboard this computer shows offline and all the status are unavailable. I have disjoined and rejoined. Changed the computer name and ran CC cleaner and disabled Antivirus (Symantec SEP) and all the other tricks. Still not working. Please advise.

Thanks,

Jamshid

these services are available on the server only not the workstations. All the other workstations can connect remotely without any problem.

    Hi,
This sounds weird because when you connect a computer to the server, the Windows Server Essentials software makes a number of changes to the computer. It contains but not limited to:
Adds services to the computer, which the computer uses to communicate with the server and with other Windows Server Essentials features
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-essentials/use/get-connected-in-windows-server-essentials#BKMK_5
This might be the cause that the computer shows offline in the dashboard because lacking of the management service, the client computer failed to communicate the necessary info with the server.

Note: the screenshot I shared was captured from the client PC with connector software installed.
Use WindowsKey + R to open the run wizar--->Type services.msc and press Enter--->Navigate to the services starting with windows server essentials.

So kindly test in the problematic workstation by removing the connector software and reinstalling.
    Install the Connector software
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-essentials/use/get-connected-in-windows-server-essentials#BKMK_11
    Uninstall the Connector software
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-essentials/use/get-connected-in-windows-server-essentials#BKMK_13

    Thanks,
    Jenny

    Hi,
Is there a forward slash (‘ / ’) character in the affacted user account?

According to below blog, some users will encounter the error message if the name contains / and need to remove this character from name.
