Cannot select slideshow on desktop background

When I select slideshow on desktop personalization it immediately reverts to picture. How can I restore this function as I had it earlier?

    This problem is usually caused by the folder set for the slideshow to not be available on the PC, when you select the Slideshow function, immediately click the Browser button, then set that to a different folder location on your PC to test if that will cause the Slideshow function to become available.

    Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum. I am sorry to hear about your issue when you cannot select slideshow on desktop background.  

    Complementing the earlier ideas, you could also look into the following options:  

    Option 1: Basic troubleshooting steps 

    • Turn off “Remove background images”: Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects > Disable Remove background images (where available). 
    • Turn off Theme sync temporarily: Settings > Accounts > Windows backup > Turn off Theme sync, then set Slideshow again. 

    Option 2: Adjust Power Settings 

    • Open Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.  
    • Expand Desktop background settings > Slideshow, then set both "On battery" and "Plugged in" to Available
