My Brother MFC-L27000DW works fine on Windows 11 in copy mode, but I can't figure out how to connect the scanner on it to connect to my computer.

To set up the scanning functionality on your Brother MFC-L2700DW to connect to your computer, you will need to ensure that the necessary drivers and software are installed. Here are the general steps you can follow:

    1. Install Drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your Brother MFC-L2700DW. You can download them from the Brother support website.
    2. Connect the Printer: Ensure that your printer is connected to your computer via USB or over your network if it supports wireless printing.
    3. Use Windows Fax and Scan: On your Windows 11 computer, you can use the built-in Windows Fax and Scan application. If it is not installed, you can add it through the Optional Features in Windows Settings:
      • Open Settings > System > Optional features.
      • Click on View features and search for Windows Fax and Scan to install it.
    4. Scan from the Printer: Once the drivers are installed and the application is set up, you can initiate a scan from the printer itself or from the Windows Fax and Scan application on your computer. Follow the prompts to select your scanner and start scanning.
    5. Check Scanner Settings: If you encounter issues, ensure that the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running, as it is responsible for communication between the scanner and the computer. You can check this in the Services application on Windows.

If you still face difficulties, consider checking the user manual for your Brother printer or the Brother support website for specific instructions related to scanning.

    Hi @MARSHA

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding your issue, it sounds like the printer itself is working correctly, since copying directly from the device is fine. When scanning works from the control panel but not from the computer, this usually points to a communication issue between Windows and the scanner service.

As a next step, please try the official troubleshooting steps provided by Brother for the MFC‑L2700DW to check the scanner connection with Windows. These steps are designed to help resolve cases where scanning works on the device but not from the computer.

For more details, please refer to: I can print but cannot scan via network. (For Windows) | Brother
