    Hi @Gregoris Tsioullos

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding the issue where Office 365 repeatedly asks for your username and password when opening Word or Excel files, I understand how frustrating this can be. I’d like to gather a few more details so I can help you narrow down the cause:

    • Have you tried signing in using your work/school account directly inside the Word or Excel application?
When you open Word or Excel, please check whether the account at the top-right corner shows that you’re signed in and that you have an active subscription. User's image
    • Office apps require you to be signed in with an account that has a valid license in order to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft 365 apps.
To verify your license, you can check it here: My Account
    • For example, my account has a Microsoft 365 E5 license, which grants access to Word, Excel, and other Office apps.  User's image
    • Are you having any trouble signing in to your work/school account on other Microsoft apps or websites?
    • If you see any error messages when you try to sign in, could you please share a screenshot?
(Feel free to hide or blur any personal or sensitive information.)

Thank you again for your time and understanding. While my initial response may not resolve the issue immediately, I’d like to gather more details about your situation so I can assist you more effectively.

I truly appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response.

Wishing you and your family a prosperous New Year!

If Office 365 is repeatedly prompting you for your username and password when trying to open Word and Excel files, it may be due to issues with your account or authentication settings. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this problem:

    1. Check your network connection: Ensure that you have a stable internet connection, as intermittent connectivity can cause authentication issues.
    2. Clear Cached Credentials: Sometimes, cached credentials can cause repeated prompts. You can clear these by going to the Windows Credential Manager and removing any stored credentials related to Office.
    3. Update Office: Make sure that your Office applications are updated to the latest version, as updates often include fixes for known issues.
    4. Check for TPM issues: If your device has a Trusted Platform Module (TPM), ensure that it is functioning correctly, as issues with TPM can lead to credential prompts. You can check this using the Event Viewer for errors related to TPM.
    5. Re-sign into Office: Try signing out of your Office applications and then signing back in to refresh your authentication.
    6. Firewall and Antivirus Settings: Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking Office applications from connecting to the internet.

If the problem persists, consider reaching out to your IT department or Microsoft support for further assistance.
