Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi @head first,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum, and I’m sorry to hear you're having trouble accessing your education account.
From your description, it appears you’re being asked to verify your sign‑in using the Microsoft Authenticator app, even though you may not have set it up or no longer have access to it. When no alternative verification method is available, the sign‑in process can return to the same MFA prompt, creating a loop.
With education accounts, MFA requirements and allowed methods are fully managed by the institution’s IT department. If the required method was never completed, is outdated, or has been removed, the system may not offer any fallback option. In these cases, resetting the password usually doesn’t resolve the issue because the account still must satisfy the institution’s MFA policy before access is granted.
If you haven’t installed the app yet, you can follow this official guide to get started: How to add your accounts to Microsoft Authenticator - Microsoft Support.
You can also refer to this article for instructions on signing in using the app: Sign in using Microsoft Authenticator - Microsoft Support.
If you need further assistance, please contact your school's IT Help Desk or support team and explain the situation. You can also share with them the steps outlined in the article Manage user authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication. This will help them assist you in resetting your MFA settings and restoring access to your account.
Once your school's IT admin in has reset your MFA, the next time you log in to your account, you will be guided through the process of setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app again from the beginning by scanning a QR code. This will break the loop and allow you to access your account normally.
Please note that forum moderators do not have access to user account settings and cannot assist with logging in, resetting passwords, or changing access rights. While we do not have access to internal systems or administrative tools required to resolve account-specific or backend-related issues, we’ll continue doing our best to support you within the scope of our responsibilities.
I hope this helps you regain access to your account quickly. I'm glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.
