I am using a personal Microsoft account. I want to move a document from one folder to another using File Explorer. File Explorer is horrible to use, by the way.

Thank you for letting me know.

Since this is happening in File Explorer and drag and drop isn’t available, let’s go through a few focused things that usually resolve this:

First, try an alternative move method (just to confirm it’s only drag-and-drop):

    • Right-click the file > Cut
    • Open the destination folder > Paste
    • If that works, then the issue is specifically with drag and drop.

    Next, check these common causes:

    • File is open > Make sure the document isn’t currently open in Word or any other app.

    File Explorer needs a refresh:

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc
    • Find Windows Explorer
    • Right-click it and choose Restart

    Folder permissions:

    • Right-click the file > Properties.
    • Make sure it’s not marked Read-only.
    • Confirm both folders are on the same drive and not restricted (for example, a system folder).

OneDrive sync interference (if the folder is synced):

    • If the folder has a cloud icon, pause OneDrive sync briefly and try again

Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Yes, Microsoft does offer support through live agents.

The available support options can vary depending on your account type and the issue you’re experiencing. To point you in the right direction, could you please let me know:

    1. Are you using a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?
    2. What’s the main issue you’re trying to get help with (for example: billing, Microsoft 365, Windows, Outlook, or account access)?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

Yes, Microsoft does offer support through a live agent. You can connect with a live agent by following these steps:

    1. In the search bar, type "Get Help" and open it.
    2. Type "Chat with an agent" and press Enter.
    3. Click the "Contact support" button at the bottom.
    4. Choose the products and services for which you need help and follow the on-screen prompts to connect with a live agent.
    5. Alternatively, you can select the "Call me back" option and provide the necessary information for them to contact you.

This allows you to receive assistance directly from a Microsoft support representative.
