Dear @Erich Zimmerman,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand how inconvenient it must be to import a SharePoint event into Outlook only to find that the Teams link is treated as a regular hyperlink rather than a fully integrated Teams meeting.
When an event is created directly as an online meeting, Outlook adds specific metadata that identifies Teams as the meeting provider. This information is applied at the moment the meeting is scheduled. If the event is downloaded from SharePoint and only contains a Teams link in the body, Outlook interprets it as a regular appointment. Because of that, the Join button and one click join experience do not appear.
In the new Outlook for Windows, Teams is integrated natively and the online meeting details are added automatically after the meeting organizer sends the invite. A pasted link does not include the required meeting metadata, so Outlook cannot surface the Join experience.

Below are a few options you can consider:
Note: Since your post is tagged with the New Outlook desktop app, please let me know if you would also like me to provide the steps for classic Outlook.
Option 1: Open the group calendar in Outlook
Open Outlook and switch to the Calendar view.
In the left navigation pane, look under Groups to see all Microsoft 365 Groups you are a member of.
Select the group you want to view calendar.

If you don’t see the Group in the left sidebar:
Go to the Mail tab > In the navigation pane, select Go to Groups.

Choose the group you want and select Events in that group > View in calendar.

Click the meeting in the group calendar and choose “Add to my calendar".

Once added, the event appears on your calendar as accepted, allowing Outlook to show the Teams Join button and send meeting notifications. You can then toggle the group calendar on or off depending on your preference.

Option 2: Request the original Teams meeting invite
This ensures Outlook recognizes the event as a true online meeting.
Ask the event organizer or SharePoint page owner to invite you directly from Outlook.
Accept the meeting invitation from your Inbox.
After accepting, the event will appear in your calendar with the Teams Join button, meeting chat and all online meeting functionalities.
I completely understand how these limitations in the new Outlook can feel disruptive. It’s not just about aesthetics; these differences can genuinely affect how smoothly you work and navigate your day.
