Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi David Bosell
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum and sharing your experience.
Even with an active Microsoft 365 subscription, the presence of ads can depend on the app, platform, and how the account is signed in. To better understand what you’re seeing, could you please clarify:
- Which Office app(s) show the ads (for example: Word, Excel, Outlook)?
- Are you using Office on Windows, macOS, the web, or mobile?
- What type of ads are displayed (banner inside the app, upgrade prompts, or ads in Outlook)?
In general, the Office desktop apps included with Microsoft 365 are designed to be ad‑free. When ads or promotional banners appear, it is often related to one of the following:
- The app is not signed in with the Microsoft account that holds the Microsoft 365 license.
- The app is running in an unlicensed or web/free experience rather than the licensed desktop version.
- The account is added in a way that is treated as a non‑Microsoft or consumer account.
As a first step, please open any Office app (such as Word), go to File > Account, and confirm that you are signed in with the correct Microsoft 365 account and that the product information shows an active subscription. Signing out and signing back in, then restarting the app, can also help refresh the license status. Please also ensure Office is fully up to date.
Please let me know how things go on your side as your update can also assist others in the community who may be facing the same issue.
