My microsoft account was used for my son so he could play minecraft when he was younger and is connected to his minecraft, xbox, etc.

Its been roughly 8 years and now I would like him off my account, he uses windows, minecraft and xbox all on it but he doesn't want to lose all of his data and progress on games, how can I migrate his games and data onto his microsoft account?

    Hi @Amber

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to transfer game data, purchases, or account ownership from one Microsoft account to another. Based on how these services are structured, Xbox profiles, game licenses, achievements, cloud saves, and Minecraft ownership are all attached to the Microsoft account that originally used or purchased them. There isn’t a supported way to move or merge this data into a different Microsoft account.

Because of this, there is no direct method to migrate Xbox progress, achievements, or Minecraft ownership to a different Microsoft account.

I know that’s not the answer you were hoping for, especially after years of progress and memories tied to that account. What you can do in this situation is:

    • Keep using the old account only for the existing games and progress already tied to it (almost like a “legacy game account”).
    • Set up a new personal account for the child going forward, making sure all new purchases and playtime happen under that new account.

Hope this clears things up for you. If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know.

Transferring data, including game progress and accounts, between Microsoft accounts can be complex and is often limited by the specific services involved. For Xbox and Minecraft, there are some general steps you can consider:

    1. Account Linking: If your son has an Xbox account linked to your Microsoft account, you may want to check if he can link his new Microsoft account to his Xbox account. This may help in retaining some of his game progress.
    2. Game Data Transfer: For games like Minecraft, progress is usually tied to the Microsoft account used to play the game. If he has a separate Microsoft account, he may need to start fresh on that account unless the game allows for account migration or linking.
    3. Contact Support: It may be beneficial to contact Microsoft Support for assistance. They can provide specific guidance on whether it's possible to transfer game data and how to do so safely.
    4. Backup Data: Before making any changes, ensure that any important data is backed up where possible. This might include saving game files or using cloud saves if supported by the game.

Unfortunately, there isn't a straightforward method to transfer all data and progress seamlessly between Microsoft accounts for games like Minecraft and Xbox, as this often depends on the game's policies and the Microsoft account's capabilities.
