Hello,

Overnight the theme/template on my web based outlook changed by itself. It now looks and loads differently. In particular, when I am viewing an email and I delete it, it does not return my view to the main inbox, it loads the next email message. I do not want it to load the next email message I want it to load the main inbox. The option for loading the main inbox is greyed out on the options menu.

    Dear Justin -

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand you are having problem with Outlook on the web behavior changing overnight, and after deleting an email it now opens the next message instead of returning to the message list (Inbox). The option to change this behavior appears greyed out. I am happy to assist you. Please follow these steps:

    • Hide the Reading pane in Outlook on the web
      • When the Reading pane is enabled, Outlook can keep you in message view and move to the next message after delete. To show or hide the Reading pane in Outlook.com: Settings in Outlook.com > Mail > Layout > Reading pane > select Hide reading pane > Save.
    • Switch message organization to individual messages (turn off conversation grouping)
      • If messages are grouped, Outlook may continue navigating within the thread/message set. Change message organization in Outlook on the web via: Settings > Mail > Layout > Message organization > select Show email as individual messages > Save.
    • Reset display-related settings by signing out and clearing browser cache
    • If all fail, please
      • Visit Contact - Microsoft Support
      • Type a brief description of your issue in the search box
      • Scroll down to the bottom > select Sign in to contact support
      • Log in to your personal Microsoft account.
      • Under Products & Services, select "Other Products"; Under Categories, select a suitable Category.
      • Click "Chat with a support agent in your web browser" (during business hours)

It sounds like your Outlook Web App may have switched to a different version or theme, which can sometimes happen due to updates or settings changes. The issue you're experiencing, where deleting an email loads the next message instead of returning to the main inbox, can occur if the option to load the main inbox is disabled or greyed out.

To resolve this, you can try the following steps:

    1. Ensure you are using a supported web browser.
    2. Go to the Options menu in Outlook Web App.
    3. Look for settings related to the inbox behavior and see if you can enable the option to return to the main inbox after deleting an email.
    4. If the option remains greyed out, it may be due to a setting that needs to be adjusted by your administrator or a temporary issue with the Outlook service.

If the problem persists, consider reaching out to your IT support for further assistance.
