I Purchased a Lenovo Laptop Computer on 10/03/24 and can not locate it in my list of devices on my account. I may have inadvertently set up a second account by accident when I purchased this device in October. I need to access the Bitlocker number for this device. I desperately need assistance as soon as possible.

    Hi Eileen McKinley,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A community.

I understand that you're incredibly in need of your BitLocker key. I wish I could share good news, but I have to be direct: no one can give you that, not even Microsoft.

    • The key is often saved to the very first Microsoft account used to set up the computer > Visit Microsoft recovery key page
    • Sign in with every possible account you or others may have used on the device (personal, secondary personal, work, school, etc.)
    • For work or school devices, you can also check with your organization's IT department.

If you have logged into every possible account but still can't find it at all, or it was never backed up, it is impossible to retrieve the key anywhere else. At that point, the only way to get your laptop working again is to clean install Windows, which will clear all data and applications.

I know this is not the answer you were hoping for, and I'm sorry to have to share this difficult information. But I believe it is best to be direct.

I tried that and still was unable to recover the information I need. I then tried going to Microsoft Support for further assistance by calling the 1-800 number that I finally was able to get and was never able to speak to a live person so I have still not been able to get assistance. So no I have still not been able to regain access to my account. I have all of my information ready and available for my device so if there is anyone that can I speak to I would appreciate a phone call. [Moderator note: PII removed]

To access the BitLocker recovery key for your Lenovo laptop, you will need to locate the Microsoft account that is associated with the device. If you suspect that you may have created a second account, try the following steps:

    1. Check All Email Accounts: Log into any email accounts you may have used to create a Microsoft account. Check for any emails from Microsoft that confirm account creation or device registration.
    2. Use the Microsoft Account Recovery Tool: Go to the Microsoft account recovery page and try to recover your account using the email addresses you think might be associated with the device. This may help you regain access to the correct account.
    3. Access BitLocker Recovery Key: Once you access the correct Microsoft account, navigate to the Devices section. You should see a list of devices linked to that account. From there, you can find the BitLocker recovery key for your Lenovo laptop.
    4. Contact Support: If you are unable to recover your account or locate the device, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. They can help you verify your identity and regain access to your account.

Make sure to have any relevant information ready, such as the purchase date and device details, to help expedite the support process.
