How to move or fully copy a planner plan to a different Team

Hi,

During the covid period we created a lot of teams that are now "outdated". So we want to remove them. But some of them have Planner plans in them that could still be usefull to maintain.
You can link the plan in another team but then the source teams needs to stay in the tenant.

Also sometimes when a colleague leaves the company they have plans that are still used.

In short, has anyone found a way to migrate or full copy (with all linked documents and tasks) plan from one group (or user) to another group/team?

With the help of CoPilot and ChatGPT I found a way to create new plans and copy all info including attachments with Powershell scripting and Graph. If anyone is interested I will be happy to share it. Maybe MS itself can use it to create a build in option.

There is currently no built-in way in Microsoft Planner to fully migrate or move a plan (with all tasks, attachments, and linked documents) from one Group or Team to another.

You can use the Copy Plan option, but it may not preserve everything (like assignments or attachments), so manual checking is required.

For a complete migration, you would need to use Power Automate (partially) or a third-party migration tool.

Regarding this situation, I tested with a basic plan and I had the option to Duplicate plan:

To move or copy a Planner plan from one team to another, there are a few options available, but it's important to note that not all data can be transferred completely:

1. Copy Entire Plan: You can copy an entire plan to create a new group. However, this process does not include comments, assignments, links, attachments, or dates. It will create a new group with the copied plan, but the original plan will remain in the source group.
2. Export the Plan: If you only need to keep a record of the plan, you can export it to an Excel spreadsheet. This will capture most of the information within the plan, but it will not include comments, links, or files. This is a one-way action, meaning you cannot import plans back from the spreadsheet.
3. Copy and Move Tasks: You can copy or move individual tasks between plans, but this can only be done within the same group. If the group associated with the plan is being deleted, this will not back up the data.

Unfortunately, there is no direct method to fully migrate a plan with all linked documents and tasks from one group or user to another group/team while ensuring all details are preserved. You may need to manually recreate some elements in the new team after copying the plan.
