Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

If you haven't tried anything yet:

    • Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that the subscription is linked to.
    • Then, open any Office app (like Word or Excel), go to File > Account, and click "Update License" to refresh your subscription status.

    If issue still persists:

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall all existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

    Here’s how:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

Follow these steps to fix the “subscription expired” message after paying for Microsoft 365 Home/Family:

    1. Confirm the subscription is active
      1. Close all Office apps (Word, Excel, etc.).
      2. Go to the Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services
      3. Sign in with the Microsoft account that was used to buy the Home package on 02/28/26.
      4. Under Microsoft 365 or Subscriptions, check that it shows as active and the expiration date is in the future (not October 2024).
      5. If it shows as expired or canceled, follow the steps in Renew Microsoft 365 Family from the page to complete/repair the renewal.
    2. Make sure the correct account is used in Office
      1. Open Word or Excel.
      2. Go to File > Account.
      3. Under User Information and Product Information, verify the email address matches the one that shows the active subscription on the Subscriptions page.
      4. If it does not match, click Sign out everywhere in Office, then Sign in with the correct Microsoft account.
      5. In the same Account page, use any Update license or Activate button if available to refresh activation.
    3. If you used a product key or retail card If the Home package was bought as a physical card/box or via a retailer, the subscription does not start until the product key is redeemed.
      1. Check the email receipt or card/box for a product key or redemption link.
      2. Follow the instructions in Renew Microsoft 365 for home to redeem the key and start the subscription.
    4. If the message persists after renewal
      1. Confirm again online that the subscription shows as active and the expiration date is correct.
      2. Close all Office apps and restart the computer.
      3. Open an Office app and check if the warning bar is gone.
      4. If it still shows “subscription canceled/expired” even though the account page shows active, contact Microsoft Support from the subscription account page so they can correct the license on the account.

If the subscription is not recognized at all on the Subscriptions page, Office may be signed in with the wrong account and needs to be switched to the one used for the 02/28/26 purchase.
