If you have an Office licence or a current Microsoft 365 subscription, open Word.

At the top of Word, log out of Office.

Restart (not shut down) your PC, then log back into Office, is your licence or subscription then recognised correctly?

If not, log into your Microsoft account on this link, do you see your Office licence or Microsoft 365 subscription listed there, and if that is a Microsoft 365 subscription, is the expiry date on the subscription indicated correctly.

No additional key is required in Windows or Word to correct text or add words, but some typing and proofing features may be turned off or misconfigured.

Try these checks in Windows (for general typing help like suggestions and spell‑check):

    1. Open Settings (press Windows logo key + I).
    2. Go to Time & language > Typing.
    3. Make sure options like Autocorrect misspelled words and Highlight misspelled words (or Show text suggestions…) are turned on, depending on what behavior is needed.

If the issue is specifically in Word (for example, misspelled words are not underlined and spell check finds nothing), the document or Word’s proofing settings may be corrupted or disabled. In that case, follow the troubleshooting steps in the “Mastering the Spelling Checker” article referenced below to reset proofing settings and repair spell check behavior.

If certain keys on the keyboard do not work when trying to correct or type (like Backspace, arrow keys, or letters), test with another keyboard. If an external keyboard works, the built‑in keyboard may have a hardware issue.
