    Hi gowtham ganaparapu,

Thanks for your post. I understand that your camera does not show any image.

Have you already tried the Q&A Assist suggestions? In addition, please try the following.

Step 1: Check camera access at system level

    1. Open “Settings” > “Privacy & security” > “Camera”
    2. Make sure:
      • “Camera access” = On
      • “Let apps access your camera” = On
      • “Let desktop apps access your camera” = On
    3. Scroll down and confirm Camera app is allowed

Step 2: Check for camera being disabled in BIOS/UEFI

Some laptops allow disabling the camera at firmware level.

    1. Restart the PC
    2. Immediately press F2 / F10 / Del / Esc (depends on manufacturer) to enter BIOS
    3. Look for “Integrated Camera”, “Webcam”, or “I/O Ports”
    4. Make sure the camera is Enabled
    5. Save changes and restart

Note: If you’re unsure about BIOS options, do not change unrelated settings.

Step 3: Test with a clean local user account

This helps rule out profile‑level corruption.

    1. Open “Settings” > “Accounts” > “Other users”
    2. Select “Add account” > “I don’t have this person’s sign‑in information”
    3. Choose “Add a user without a Microsoft account”
    4. Create a temporary local account and sign in
    5. Open the Camera app and test

If the camera works there, the issue is limited to your original user profile.

Let's check some additional information to help resolve the issue:

    1. What is the make and model of your device?

In the search bar, type MSINFO32 and hit Enter.

Please share a screenshot of that window.

    1. Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager.

Click View > Show Hidden devices

    Expand Camera section.

Take a screenshot and share it here.

    1. What exactly do you see on your screen when you open the camera?

Follow these steps on the Windows 11 PC to fix a camera that only shows a black screen or nothing:

    1. Check physical camera controls
      • On the laptop keyboard, press the function key that has a camera icon (for example, Fn + F4 or a key with a camera symbol).
      • Check the camera area above the screen for a small privacy slider/shutter and slide it open.
    2. Test the camera in the Camera app
      • Select Start > Camera.
      • If the preview works here but not in other apps, the problem is with that app’s settings. Make sure the app is allowed to use the camera and select the correct camera inside the app.
    3. Check for Windows updates and restart
      • Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      • If View optional updates appears, open it and install any camera-related updates.
      • After updates install, select Start > Power > Restart (do a full restart, not just wake from sleep), then test the Camera app again.
    4. Update the camera driver (black screen/no video)
      • Select Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Cameras and find the camera.
      • Right‑click the camera > Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
      • Restart the PC and test the Camera app.
    5. If the camera stopped after a recent Windows update
      • Open Device Manager, right‑click the camera > Properties > Driver tab.
      • Select Roll Back Driver (if available) and confirm.
      • Restart the PC and test the Camera app.
      • If Roll Back is not available or does not help:
        • In Properties > Driver, select Uninstall Device and check Delete the driver software for this device, then OK.
        • In Device Manager, select Action > Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver.
        • Restart and test again.
    6. Run the Windows camera troubleshooter (Windows 11)
      • Use the Get Help app and run the camera troubleshooter from there: it will automatically check and fix many camera issues.
      • After it finishes, restart and test the Camera app.

If the camera still shows only black after all steps, test the camera on another device (for external webcams) or contact the PC/camera manufacturer, as it may be a hardware fault.
