What is the best way to set up a follow-up meeting on Teams

As described ↑. What is the best way to "Meet Again" for a single occurrence meeting? Initially set up a one-time meeting, wanting to setup a follow-up meeting whilst keeping the same chat history etc. It's a one-time follow up, so not a recurring. To note, Copilot suggests the "Up next" but I can't seem to find that function.

    Hi @Lynx

Thank you for taking the time to describe exactly how you want the follow up to work.

From your description, you would like to hold a single follow up Teams meeting after a one-time meeting, while keeping the same chat history and conversation context instead of starting a separate thread.

This behavior is expected because Teams chat is usually tied to the specific meeting entry that was created, so creating a brand new single meeting often starts a separate meeting chat. In contrast, recurring meetings keep the same chat thread across occurrences, and channel meetings keep the conversation in the channel itself.

Please try the options below, as they are the most practical approaches for a single follow up while keeping as much continuity as possible.

Option 1: Schedule the follow up from the existing chat thread, which is typically the best approach for keeping discussion in one place

    • Open Teams, select Chat, and then open the chat thread from the original meeting or the same group conversation.
    • Select More chat options at the top of the chat, and then select Schedule a meeting.
    • Update the date and time for the follow up, confirm the meeting details, and then select Send.

If the follow up is urgent and you do not need a formal calendar invite, starting a Meet now call from the same chat keeps everyone in that chat thread for immediate discussion.

Option 2: Duplicate the original meeting from the Teams Calendar to reuse details quickly, then adjust the time for the follow up

    • Open Teams and go to Calendar.
    • Right click the original meeting, and if Duplicate event is available, select it to create a copy.

    • Change the date and time to your follow up slot, review attendees and options, and then select Send.

This method is the fastest way to reuse meeting details, although chat continuity can still vary because the follow up is a new single meeting entry.

Option 3: Copy the meeting from Outlook using Ctrl plus drag, which is a quick workaround for a one time follow up

    • In Outlook Calendar, hover over the meeting, press and hold Ctrl, and then drag the meeting to the new date and time.
    • Open the copied meeting, adjust any details you need, and then send the update to attendees.

I hope this response has helped address your question and clarify the behavior you're experiencing. Please feel free to reply if you have any further questions, I would be happy to assist further.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. I look forward to continuing the conversation.

To keep the same chat history and context, the most practical approach is to reuse the original meeting rather than creating a brand‑new one:

    1. Open the original meeting from the Teams Calendar (or from Meet → Up next if using the Meet area).
    2. Use the existing meeting chat to post the new date/time and any updated agenda or files so everyone sees the follow‑up details in the same thread.
    3. Either:
      • Edit the existing meeting time (if acceptable to all) so the same meeting object is used again, or
      • Create a new one‑time meeting and paste the original meeting link into the new invite description or chat so participants can easily jump back to the previous chat, files, and recap.

Teams keeps shared files, recordings, and transcripts accessible from the original calendar invite and its meeting chat, so reusing or linking back to that meeting is the best way to preserve history.
