Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Where did you install Office from? And what exact version (Microsoft 365, Office 2021, etc.)?

    Try this first:

    • Press Start
    • Type Word or Excel
    • See if the apps show up in the search

If you can open them from search, it just means shortcuts weren’t created.

You can fix it by: Right-click the app > Pin to Start or Pin to taskbar.

Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions or concerns.

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

To open Office apps and get their icons back on the desktop or taskbar in Windows 10, use these steps:

    1. Open the apps from Start
      • Select Start.
      • Either:
        • Start typing the app name (for example, Word or Excel) and select it from the search results, or
        • Select All apps and scroll to the application name (for example, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    2. Pin to Start or taskbar (so the icons are always visible)
      • In the Start menu, locate the Office app (Word, Excel, etc.).
      • Right‑click the app name and choose Pin to Start or Pin to Taskbar.
      • This adds the icon to the Start menu or the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
    3. Create desktop shortcuts (optional)
      • In Start > All apps, find the Office app.
      • Drag the app icon from the Start menu onto the desktop to create a shortcut, or right‑click and use the available pin/shortcut options if shown.
    4. If the shortcuts are still missing
      • Run an Office Online Repair to restore missing shortcuts. See Repair an Office application from the article referenced below.

If Office file icons appear blank/white after installing from Microsoft Store, reset the Office apps:

    1. Open Settings > Apps.
    2. Find Microsoft Office Desktop Apps, select it, then choose Advanced options.
    3. Click Fix, wait about a minute, then restart the device.
    4. If the problem persists, repeat and choose Reset instead of Fix.
