I am receiving spam email calendar appointments and don't want to have to dismiss the resulting calendar notification.

If your problem matches the one described in this post:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5597205/prevent-pfishing-calendar-items

Microsoft is aware of the problem but there is currently no fix. There are no Rules you can create or settings you can change in the Outlook client that will stop these SPAM Calendar Events.

    Dear Eric Gammeter

I understand you’re using Classic Outlook (Office Pro 2022) and you’re getting spam meeting/appointment items that trigger calendar reminder pop‑ups, and you want to stop the notifications. Do these spam items already show up on your Calendar as “Tentative” automatically, or are they only arriving as meeting-invite emails in your Inbox?

Meanwhile, please also try these steps:

    • Stop the reminder pop‑up window
      • In Classic Outlook: File > Options > Advanced > Reminders > clear “Show reminders”. This stops the reminder pop‑ups from appearing.
    • Prevent Outlook from adding default reminders to calendar items you create
      • File > Options > Calendar > under Calendar options, clear “Default reminders” (or set reminder to None where available).
    • Filter spam meeting invites before they bother you (Inbox rule)
      • Create a rule to automatically move (or delete) meeting invitations so they don’t clutter your Inbox:
      • Go to: File > Manage Rules & Alerts > New Rule > Apply rule on messages I receive > select “which is a meeting invitation or update” > choose an action like “move it to the specified folder” (or delete).
    • Optional (only if meeting requests are being added to Calendar as Tentative automatically)
      • If your mailbox is Outlook.com/Exchange and you notice the invites appear on your calendar before you accept them, check Outlook on the web settings: Settings > Calendar > Automatic processing > clear “Automatically place new meeting requests on my calendar, marked Tentative”.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!

In Outlook on the web and the new Outlook, calendar notifications and event creation from email can be controlled but the calendar feature itself cannot be fully turned off. To reduce or stop spam calendar notifications, disable notifications and automatic event creation so spam invites no longer pop up.

In Outlook on the web/new Outlook:

    1. Turn off calendar notifications:
      1. Go to Settings > General > Notifications.
      2. Under Notify me about, find the Calendar section.
      3. Set the toggle to Off so calendar notifications do not appear.
    2. Stop events being auto‑added from email (classic Outlook on the web):
      1. Go to Settings > Calendar > Automatic processing.
      2. Under Events from email, select Don't add events to my calendar from email so calendar items are not created automatically from incoming messages.

These steps prevent most unwanted calendar items from generating visible notifications, which is the practical way to “turn off” calendar behavior for spam appointments.
