OneDrive column width

Is there or can there be an option in OneDrive to set the column width view? In SharePoint there is a save view option that I am hoping can work in the one drive software. It is time consuming and frustrating each time you go to a different folder the first column / file name is cut short and must manually make the column wider to view all the information.

Thank you for considering my question.

have a great day.

Unfortunately, AFAIK, OneDrive for the web does not currently have a "Save View" option or a setting to permanently lock column widths. While you can manually resize a column by dragging its header edge in the list view, this change is temporary and will typically reset to the default width whenever you refresh the page, sign out, or navigate to a different folder. This differs from SharePoint, where persistent view configurations are a standard feature for team collaboration.

One potential workaround is to use the OneDrive sync to access files through your computer's local file manager, such as Windows File Explorer or macOS Finder. Local file managers generally remember column width adjustments on a per-folder basis, which prevents the need for manual resizing every time you open a folder.

Another alternative for work or school accounts is to use the "Add shortcut to OneDrive" feature for folders that are actually hosted on SharePoint. By doing this, you should be able to leverage SharePoint's "Save View" settings while still accessing the files through your OneDrive interface.

    Hi @Rose Cheeseman

Thank you for raising this point, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

At the moment, OneDrive for work does not offer a "Save View" feature similar to SharePoint document libraries. While SharePoint is designed for collaborative environments with highly customizable metadata and persistent layouts, OneDrive is currently structured as a more streamlined personal library. On the web, you can drag the column boundaries to resize them in List View, but these changes are temporary and do not carry over as you move between folders.

With your context, you can consider the 2 tips below:

    • Quick resize: On the web interface, you can quickly hover over the edge of the "Name" column header and drag it to your preferred width.
    • SharePoint transition: If your workflow requires persistent, saved views and complex column layouts, moving those specific files to a SharePoint Document Library may provide the robust management experience you are looking for.

While these workarounds exist, I know they aren't a perfect fix for the concern you've described. This is where your voice becomes incredibly powerful. The product teams prioritize updates based directly on user pain points. Your specific suggestion regarding "Save View" functionality is a feature that many users would benefit from. I highly encourage you to submit this feedback through the OneDrive feedback. When users like you share these real-world obstacles, it provides the roadmap our developers need to evolve the software. Your input truly does shape what OneDrive will look like in the future.
