The error AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity means the Microsoft Entra tenant is in an inactive, blocked state.

Key points from the documented behavior:

    • When a tenant is blocked due to inactivity, sign-ins are expected to fail with this exact error.
    • Administrators can request reactivation only within 20 days of the tenant entering the inactive state.
    • After 20 days in this state, the tenant is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

    To proceed:

    1. If the tenant has been inactive for less than 20 days:
      • A tenant administrator must contact Microsoft support using the global support phone numbers to request reactivation. See the guidance under “Administrators” in the tenant inactivity article.
      • Submit only one assistance request and wait for the decision before opening another.
    2. If the tenant has been inactive for 20 days or more:
      • The tenant is deleted and is not recoverable.

    Regarding the tenant ID:

    • The reactivation process itself does not require signing in to the blocked tenant; Microsoft support will use identity verification and tenant ownership checks as part of the case.
    • If there are any previous emails from the original tenant creation or Azure/Entra welcome messages, those often contain the tenant name (for example, yourtenant.onmicrosoft.com), which can be provided to support as part of the identification process.

If the tenant is associated with a nonprofit or similar organization scenario and access to the admin account is lost (for example, due to staff turnover or lost credentials), recovery still must go through standard Microsoft 365 support channels with identity verification; no team can bypass that process.
