    Welcome charles albert,

I understand how frustrating it can be while you are using one program, other programs or installers keep starting automatically and interrupting your work on your Windows 11 home PC.

To help identify the fastest resolution, please confirm the following:

    • Does this usually happen right after you sign in to Windows, or only when you open a specific app?
    • Are the pop‑ups related to a specific program, or do you see Windows Installer or “installing/repairing” messages?

Regarding your case, I can see that QA Assist and Thileep Kumar has already provided some helpful troubleshooting steps. Besides, you could also look into the following options:

Option 1: Check which app is triggering the installer

    • Press Windows key + R
    • Type eventvwr and press Enter
    • Expand Windows Logs and select Application
    • Look for recent entries with source MSIInstaller and note the program name mentioned

Option 2: Perform a clean boot to isolate conflicts

    • Press Windows key + R, type msconfig, and press Enter
    • On the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services
    • Click Disable all
    • Restart the PC and see if unexpected installers still appear

Option 3: Scan the system for corrupted files

    • Open Command Prompt as administrator from the Start menu
    • Run: sfc /scannow
    • Wait for the scan to complete, then restart

Option 4: Check Windows Security for unwanted background activity

    • Open Windows Security
    • Select Virus and threat protection
    • Run a Full scan

I hope this information helps resolve your issue. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me again in this thread.

When did this issue start? Does it happen with all programs or only specific ones?

Have you installed any new apps or updates recently?

Have you tried closing unnecessary background apps? If not, please press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and close any apps that are not needed.

Unexpected installs or setup windows appearing while using another program usually mean that another installation is running in the background or that a previous install did not finish correctly.

Try these steps on Windows 11 to clear stuck installs:

    1. Close visible setup windows
    • Close any installer or setup dialog that is currently open.
    1. Restart the PC
    • A restart often clears a stuck “installation in progress” state.
    1. Stop a stuck Windows Installer service (advanced)
    • Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Select More details if needed.
    • Go to the Services tab.
    • Look for msiserver.
    • Right‑click msiserver and choose Stop.
    • After that, try using the affected program again or reinstalling the software.
    1. If installs/uninstalls keep failing
    • Download and run the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter:
      • Use the Download troubleshooter link in the article below.
      • Choose Run or Open when prompted.
      • Follow the steps in the wizard to fix install/uninstall problems and corrupted registry keys.

If a specific program is repeatedly trying to install or repair itself, uninstall that program from Settings → Apps → Installed apps, restart, then reinstall it once.

If the issue started after installing something suspicious or unwanted, consider uninstalling that software and running a full antivirus scan.
