    Hi Kaeshon Nathan,

Since Windows 11 was installed on unsupported hardware, the OpenGL message may be related to graphics driver compatibility, especially if the device is using older Intel graphics. Intel notes that OpenGL support comes from the graphics driver itself, and older Intel HD Graphics 2000/3000 models have limited OpenGL support and are not officially supported with newer Windows driver paths.

    Please try these following checks:

    • Open Device Manager > Display adapters and confirm the exact GPU listed there. If it shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, the full graphics driver may not be installed.
    • Use Intel’s graphics support page or Intel Driver & Support Assistant to install the latest available graphics driver for the exact GPU model, then restart the PC.
    • Launch vanilla Minecraft first. If the same OpenGL error appears, that would point to the graphics driver or hardware capability rather than the mod itself. Minecraft’s support page recommends disabling mods during this type of testing.

If the GPU is Intel HD 2000/3000, that would suggest a hardware/driver limitation, as Intel indicates HD 3000 supports OpenGL through its older driver set and is not officially supported on newer Windows platforms.

If the issue continues, please share the exact GPU model shown in Device Manager and the full OpenGL error message. That will help narrow down whether this is still a driver issue or a graphics hardware limitation.

    Hi,

Could you take a screenshot of the error message and post it here?

Access msinfo32.exe in the search bar and post it here so we can see the correct information about your laptop.

    Thanks

The OpenGL error indicates that the graphics driver or hardware does not provide the OpenGL support required by the game/mod. On Windows this is entirely dependent on the GPU driver, not Java or Minecraft itself.

Use these steps to troubleshoot and understand what is happening:

    1. Confirm the graphics hardware and driver source
      • Open Device Manager → Display adapters and note the exact GPU model (for example, Intel HD/UHD, Intel Iris, NVIDIA, AMD).
      • For best OpenGL support, drivers must come directly from the GPU vendor (Intel, NVIDIA, AMD), not only from Windows Update or the motherboard/PC vendor bundle. This is similar to Wi‑Fi issues where using the chipset vendor’s driver (for example, Intel Wi‑Fi) fixed performance problems after a clean install.
    2. Install the latest vendor driver for the GPU
      • Go to the GPU manufacturer’s support site and download the latest driver for the exact GPU model and Windows version.
      • Install it, then restart Windows.
      • This is important because:
        • Windows Update may only offer a basic or older driver.
        • Motherboard/PC vendor sites may host outdated drivers.
      • If the vendor driver installs successfully, it usually replaces the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and enables full OpenGL support.
    3. Check for Windows blocking the driver (Memory Integrity)
      • If Windows shows notifications like “A driver can’t load on this device”, the security feature Memory Integrity may be blocking the GPU driver.
      • To check and adjust:
        1. Open Start → Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security → Device Security.
        2. Select Core isolation details.
        3. Look at Memory integrity.
        4. If the GPU driver is being blocked and no updated compatible driver is available, turning Memory integrity off can allow the driver to load after a restart.
      • Important: Turning off Memory Integrity reduces protection and takes a Secured-core PC out of its secured state. Only do this if necessary and with awareness of the security impact.
    4. Understand OS and driver support limits
      • On some older hardware, especially older Intel GPUs, there may be no fully supported driver for newer Windows versions:
        • For Windows 8 and later, older XDDM-style display drivers are not supported at all and will not install or run.
        • If there is no in-box or vendor driver for the GPU on the current OS, Windows will fall back to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter (MSBDA/MSBDD), which provides only minimal graphics and very limited or no OpenGL support.
      • For Windows 10/11 upgrades:
        • If Windows Update has no suitable graphics driver for a given GPU, the upgrade advisor may block the upgrade or, if the upgrade is forced, the system may end up using only the basic display driver, which often breaks or severely limits OpenGL.
    5. If no proper driver exists for the GPU on the current OS
      • When the GPU is too old or has reached end-of-life and there is no Windows 10/11 driver with the required OpenGL support, there is no fully supported software fix. The options are:
        1. Stay on an older Windows version where a proper driver exists and works with OpenGL.
        2. Accept the limitations of the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter (many games and mods will not run or will crash).
        3. Install a newer graphics card that has a supported Windows 10/11 driver with the OpenGL level required by the game/mod.
    6. Why this can suddenly break after it used to work
      • Common reasons:
        • Windows feature update replaced or removed an older, unofficial, or incompatible driver and reverted to the basic display driver.
        • Security features (like Memory Integrity) started blocking an older GPU driver after an update.
        • A clean install of Windows left only the in-box/basic driver, and the vendor driver was never reinstalled.
      • In all these cases, reinstalling a current vendor driver (if available) is the key step.
    7. When to suspect hardware limitation vs. configuration issue
      • Likely configuration/driver issue if:
        • The GPU is relatively recent and has official Windows 10/11 drivers on the vendor site.
        • The error started right after a Windows reinstall or update.
      • Likely hardware limitation if:
        • The GPU is several generations old and the vendor only offers drivers for older Windows versions.
        • Windows Update and the vendor site have no Windows 10/11 driver, or only basic/legacy support.

If, after installing the latest vendor driver and ensuring it is not blocked by Memory Integrity, the system still reports that OpenGL is unsupported or the game crashes, the GPU is most likely not fully supported on the current Windows version. At that point, running the game on a system with a supported GPU/driver or upgrading the graphics hardware is the reliable solution.
