My windows activation has beep perfectly fine for years until today, nothing has changed apart from i changed my Nvidia driver from gaming to studio, my device is still active on my account.

I keep getting a message saying I need to activate but it doesn't work, the trouble shooter was saying we cant activate this device. Error code 0x803fabc3. I tried the changed hardware option but it said that servers were down.

A google search suggested running the sfc scannow in cmd to fix errors.

I was now able to run the trouble shooter and select my device when clicking on recently changed hardware but when I select my device from the list it says it cant activate it.

Any help would me much appriciated

    Welcome Robert Fogarity,

I understand how frustrating it can be when you are experiencing a Windows 11 Home activation issue where your previously activated system is now showing error code 0x803FABC3, even though the device is still listed in your Microsoft account and the Activation Troubleshooter cannot re‑activate it after a driver change.

Before proceeding, I need to narrow this down slightly:

    • Was this Windows 11 Home license originally activated using a digital license linked to your Microsoft account, or with a 25‑character product key?
    • Are you currently signed in to Windows using the same Microsoft account that shows the device as active on your account webpage?

In the meantime, you can try the workaround steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Step 1: Confirm your edition matches the license

    • Open Settings > System > Activation
    • Verify that the installed edition says Windows 11 Home
    • If it shows Pro or another edition, activation will fail with this error

Step 2: Make sure Windows is fully updated

    • Open Settings > Windows Update
    • Install all pending updates
    • Restart the device and recheck Activation

Step 3: Re‑link the Microsoft account to the digital license

    • Open Settings > Accounts > Your info
    • Confirm you are signed in with a Microsoft account, not a local account
    • If already signed in, switch temporarily to a local account, restart, then sign back in with the Microsoft account and retry activation

Step 4: Run the Activation Troubleshooter again

    • Open Settings > System > Activation
    • Select Troubleshoot
    • Choose I changed hardware on this device recently
    • Select the correct device from the list and confirm

The above steps are provided based on the information I have learned so far, I wish that will be helpful to you. If your problem still cannot be solved by these steps, you could tell me about the specific situation in the next reply. I will continue to assist you in solving the problem.
