    Hi, Megan Dunn

When Claude will not install in Excel Home on Windows, it is usually blocked by version limits, account restrictions, or background Office settings rather than the add-in itself. This is common with newer Office Store add-ins that rely on cloud features.

Besides the solutions provided by the Q&A Assist, here are some suggestions you can try:

It is recommended that you check whether Excel is signed in with the correct Microsoft account. Claude installs only when Excel is signed into a personal Microsoft 365 account, not a leftover work or school account, which can silently block Office Store add-ins.

It is suggested that you verify your Excel build number. Claude for Excel requires a Microsoft 365 subscription build on Windows, and older perpetual “Home” versions often cannot load modern web-based add-ins even if Excel itself works fine.

You can temporarily try installing Claude from Excel on the web (office.com). If it works there, this usually confirms the desktop app is the issue and not your Claude account.

You should also check your Claude plan. The add-in currently works only with Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plans, so a free account may install but fail to activate properly.

If the add-in installs but fails at sign-in, please wait or retry later, as Claude’s own issue tracker shows recent OAuth login failures on Windows that require a server-side fix.

Claude for Excel is not covered in the context, but the general process to install or enable any Excel add-in on Windows is as follows:

    1. In Excel, select File > Get Add-ins. Alternatively, select Home > Add-ins.
    2. In the Office Add-ins dialog, use More Add-ins to explore available add-ins.
    3. On the My Add-ins tab, check whether the Claude add-in is already listed:
      • If listed but inactive, right-click it and choose the option to activate.
      • If not listed, it must be installed first.
    4. To install an add-in that is already on the computer (for example, provided by an organization):
      • In the Add-Ins dialog, select Browse, locate the add-in file (such as .xlam, .xla, .xll), and select OK.
    5. If the Claude add-in is provided as an installer (for example, an .msi package), download or copy that installer to the computer and run it. After installation, restart Excel and repeat steps 1–3 to activate it.
    6. If the Claude add-in is offered through a website or organizational server, download and install it from there following the provider’s instructions, then activate it via File > Get Add-ins as above.

If the add-in still does not appear after running its installer, contact the system administrator or the add-in provider to confirm that the correct version for the Excel and Windows environment is being used.
