Support Kafka Datasource Plugin

Grafana is supporting a kafka plugin that can be really helpful in livesite. the plugin is available in grafana itself but not found in the list of plugins under Azure Managed Grafana. Will and when you are going to add it?

The Kafka datasource plugin is a community plugin and is not currently supported in Azure Managed Grafana. Azure Managed Grafana only allows a curated set of plugins that are approved and exposed through the Azure portal, and custom/community plugins from the Grafana catalog cannot be installed.

If you wish, you may also leave your feedback in the below forum requesting this feature. All the feedback you share in these forums will be monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building Azure.

The entire Grafana project is community supported. This was announced in the latest GrafanaCon so even though it is a community plugin it could be available.

In fact you do support community plugins like the one in the screenshot:

Also the curated set of plugins has a link saying that users can requests new plugins meaning that the set of plugins is not set in stone.

It's very disappointing to see the unwillingness to introduce new features...

We have again reached out to the PG team and received an update that we support select community plugins that are actively maintained and do not pose a security risk. The plugin in this case (hamedkarbasi93-kafka-datasource) is a community plugin that is actively developed; however, it requires backend access. Plugins with backend access inherently carry a higher security risk.

As a policy, we do not support community plugins that require backend access by default. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis, provided there is strong business justification and no viable alternative solutions.

I have shared you the list of plugins we support or do not support via "Private Message" and adding screenshot below as well.
