The subscription status in the account is controlled entirely by what is shown on the Microsoft account “Services & subscriptions” page. If it shows as expired even though payment was made, the following checks and actions are required:

    1. Confirm the subscription really is active
      1. Close all Office apps.
      2. Go to the Subscriptions page.
      3. Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to purchase Microsoft 365 in June 2025.
      4. Under the Microsoft 365 heading, check whether it shows:
        • An active subscription with a future Expires on [date] or a next charge date, or
        • Expired status.
If it shows Expired, the payment in June 2025 did not result in an active subscription on this account, and renewal is required following the steps in How to renew your Microsoft 365 subscription.
    2. Verify payment and renewal actually applied to this account
      • If the subscription should be renewed, first make sure the payment method is valid:
        1. Go to Payment options.
        2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account.
        3. If the payment method shows an error (for example, expired card), update it.
      • If a physical box or card was purchased in June 2025, ensure the product key was redeemed. The subscription does not start until the key is entered. Use the guidance in Where to enter your Office product key to redeem it.
    3. If the subscription shows as renewed but Office apps still say expired
      • If the Subscriptions page shows an active Microsoft 365 subscription but Office apps still show “expired” or subscription warnings, follow the guidance in A subscription notice appears when I open a Microsoft 365 application:
        • Confirm the expiration date is correct using Find out when your Microsoft 365 subscription expires.
        • If the expiration date is correct but notifications continue, check the “If you're still getting notifications after renewing or buying Microsoft 365” section:
          • Confirm the renewal completed successfully on the Subscriptions page.
          • If a product key was used, verify it was entered correctly.
          • If the expiration date still looks wrong or the account status is inconsistent, contact Microsoft Support from that article.
    4. If the subscription type does not include desktop apps
      • If the account only has Microsoft 365 Basic, that plan does not include the right to install desktop Office apps. In that case, desktop apps will continue to show activation/expired messages even though the subscription is paid and current. Only Microsoft 365 Personal or Family include installable Office apps.

If, after confirming the correct account, payment method, and product key, the Subscriptions page still shows an incorrect expired status for a subscription that was paid in June 2025, direct contact with Microsoft Support is required so they can review the billing and correct the subscription state.
