Microsoft accounts cannot be merged, but one account can be kept active while subscriptions on the other are canceled and, if desired, that account is later closed.
To stop paying for a Microsoft 365 subscription on one of the accounts:
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the Microsoft account whose subscription should be canceled.
- Select Cancel subscription (or Upgrade or Cancel), then follow the on‑screen steps.
- If only Turn on recurring billing appears, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not renew.
- Review the Please review section and confirm I don't want my subscription to complete cancellation.
Canceling a subscription does not delete the Microsoft account itself; it only stops that subscription and its benefits. If a refund is needed and eligibility requirements are met, follow the cancellation flow and the refund rules described in the Microsoft Store Terms of Sale.
If there are two different Microsoft 365 subscriptions (one per account) and only one is needed, repeat the above steps for the account whose subscription should be stopped, and keep the subscription on the preferred account.
If there are two Microsoft accounts using the same email address (for example, a personal account and a work or school account), they cannot be merged. To reduce confusion when signing in:
- Rename the personal Microsoft account by changing its primary alias:
- Go to the Manage how you sign in section of the Microsoft account.
- Add a new email alias or choose an existing one, then select Make primary.
- Alternatively, contact the organization that created the work or school account and ask them to remove the account if it was created in error.
