Not receiving verification codes in authenticator app to gain access to a shared Teams channel

Good afternoon

I have exhausted all recommended tips on the online support and tried getting through on the phone, which is impossible.

I need to access a shared Teams channel that was shared by a client and when I try to access it asks for me to get a code from the Authenticator App. There is no code. When we try to sign in a different way it doesn't provide the text or email option. We think the issue could be related to the fact that the same email is linked to both a Work and a Personal Microsoft account, however we are unable to resolve any of this without an authentication code in the app that never appears. We need some urgent support with this so we can gain access to the relevant Teams Channel. Look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi @Steve Dalton

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding that you are not receiving verification codes in authenticator app to gain access to a shared Teams channel.

When you are invited to a shared channel, your account is added as a guest to the client’s tenant. If the issue is related to accessing a shared channel in the client’s tenant, only the administrator of that client tenant will be able to investigate and resolve it, as authentication and access controls are managed entirely on their side.

For this situation please try contact with your client to reset your MFA settings through the Microsoft Entra Admin Center. Ask your client administrator to follow these steps:

    1. Sign in to Microsoft Entra admin center with the admin account
    2. Go to Users
    3. Select the affected user account
    4. Open Authentication methods
    5. Revoke sessions
    6. Select Require re‑register MFA
    7. Save the changes

Revoke MFA sessions and require re-register in the Microsoft Entra admin center

Thank you again for your time and understanding. While my initial response may not resolve the issue immediately, I’d like to gather more details about your situation so I can assist you more effectively.

I really appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response!
