I purchased additional cloud storage 4/24/2026 (Additional 200 GB Microsoft cloud storage). One Drive will not fully back up my files, states more storage required to complete back up?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Did you recently purchase the Microsoft 365 Basic subscription? If so, have you waited at least 24 to 48 hours?

After purchasing additional storage (or freeing space), it can take up to 24 to 48 hours for everything to fully update across your account. I’d recommend waiting that time and then trying again to OneDrive again.

If the update is still pending after 24 hours, you can try unlinking and relinking your OneDrive account, or resetting it. "Unlink and re-link OneDrive" https://support.microsoft.com/office/unlink-and-re-link-onedrive-3c4680bf-cc36-4204-9ca5-e7b24cdd23ea

If you're using OneDrive for File Explorer, please check if the storage quota is already available in OneDrive web at https://onedrive.live.com and try uploading files from there.

Feel free to reach out again if the issue persists after trying these steps.

After purchasing additional Microsoft cloud storage, it can take some time for the new quota to be recognized across OneDrive and backup features.

Use these steps to resolve the “more storage required” message:

    1. Confirm the new storage is applied
      1. Go to Manage storage for OneDrive: https://onedrive.live.com/?v=managestorage
      2. Refresh the page and check that the total storage reflects the extra 200 GB.
      3. It may take up to 24 hours for changes to show. If the quota has not updated after 24–48 hours, proceed with the next steps.
    2. Unlink and re-link OneDrive on the PC Sometimes the local OneDrive client does not immediately pick up the updated quota.
      1. Unlink the OneDrive account from the PC.
      2. Sign back in and re-link OneDrive so it refreshes the account information and storage. (See Unlink and re-link OneDrive in the referenced article.)
    3. Check if OneDrive is actually over quota
      1. In OneDrive online, open Manage your OneDrive storage to see what is taking space and to empty the Recycle Bin if needed.
      2. If still over the limit even with the new quota, delete unneeded files or folders, or remove large shared folders that count against the quota.
    4. If the quota still appears wrong after 48 hours If the storage upgrade does not show correctly after 48 hours and unlink/re-link does not help, contact Microsoft support as indicated in the OneDrive storage article.

Once the account recognizes the new storage and is under the quota, OneDrive backup should complete without the “more storage required” warning.
