Hi, I'm Bernard. I'm happy to help!

Can you try to open the Camera app and let me know the exact error message you have? While waiting, kindly follow the steps below:

Method 1. Check if the Camera has a slider to turn on or off the Camera (Usually at the top of the camera)

Method 2. Check the privacy settings of the Camera (Go to Settings > Privacy & Security> Camera (Make sure that the Camera access is turned on)

Method 3. Roll back the Camera Driver:

-Press the Windows key + X

    -Go to Device Manager

    -Expand the Cameras

    -Look for your Camera driver

    -Right-click and click Update Driver

-Select Browse my computer for drivers

-Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer

-Choose an old driver or another driver name, then select it and hit next until it installs.

    -Restart the PC and check.

Perform these checks and fixes in order on the Windows 11 HP laptop:

    1. Test if the issue is app‑specific
      1. Select Start > Camera.
      2. If the preview works there, the problem is with the specific app’s camera settings.
    2. Check for Windows and camera driver updates
      1. Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      2. If no camera updates appear, select Advanced options > Optional updates and look for any driver updates for the camera. Install them and restart the device.
      3. After restart, open Start > Camera and confirm the camera works.
    3. Run the Camera troubleshooter
      1. Select Start > Settings > System.
      2. Scroll down and select Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      3. Find Camera and select Run to let Windows automatically detect and fix issues.
    4. Check antivirus or security software Some antivirus or firewall tools can block camera access.
      1. Open the antivirus/firewall app from Start.
      2. Look in Settings, Tools, or Protection for options that control webcam or camera protection.
      3. Temporarily disable that protection and test the camera again.
      4. Re‑enable protection after testing.
    5. If the screen is black or says blocked A black screen or “blocked” message can be caused by hardware, drivers, or a physical cover.
      1. Make sure the camera lens area on the HP laptop is not covered by a privacy shutter or sticker and is clean.
      2. Update the camera driver:
        • Select Start > Device Manager.
        • Expand Cameras.
        • Right‑click the camera > Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
        • Restart the computer and test again.

If the camera still appears blocked after these steps, the issue is likely with HP’s hardware privacy controls or camera hardware and may require HP support.
