Bluetooth toggle freeze

Please help. My Bluetooth automatically turns on at startup and I can connect to TWS and other devices, but when I try to turn it off via Quick Settings or Settings → Bluetooth & devices, the toggle is grayed out and unresponsive, and Settings freezes. If I disable the Bluetooth Adapter in Device Manager, Settings returns to normal; if I enable the adapter, Settings freezes again. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the driver, but the problem persists.WhatsApp Image 2026-05-09 at 08.06.05

Hello, if this is the situation, we can try other options -

    1. Click Windows + R key, type services.msc and click ok.
    2. Locate Device Association Service > make sure the service is running and set the startup type to Automatic.
    3. If the service is already running, restart the service.

If the issue persists, open a PowerShell (Administrator) Window and execute the command below.

    PowerShell

    Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppxManifest.xml"}

This command may take some time to finish. Ignore the errors that are displayed in Red. Once done, restart your computer.

This command can help repair the Windows Shell Experience Host by re-registering all built-in Windows apps, including ShellExperienceHost.exe, which I believe is corrupted. This command might take a few minutes, depending on the system performance and apps installed.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

May I please know the make and model of your computer?

Type 'Msinfo' in the search bar on the taskbar and click Enter.

Post a screenshot of the resulting dialog box.

Follow these steps in order, using the methods that specifically target Bluetooth services and drivers that can cause the Settings app and toggle to hang.

    1. Run the built‑in Bluetooth troubleshooter (Windows 11)
    2. Turn Bluetooth off/on from Settings after the troubleshooter
      • Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
      • If the page now loads, turn Bluetooth off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on and test the toggle again.
    3. Reinstall the Bluetooth adapter from Device Manager Since disabling the adapter restores Settings, completely remove and let Windows rebuild the Bluetooth stack.
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Bluetooth.
      • Right‑click the Bluetooth adapter and select Uninstall device.
      • Confirm uninstall.
      • Shut down the PC completely (not just restart). Wait a few seconds, then power it back on so Windows reinstalls the driver automatically.
      • If the driver does not reinstall, in Device Manager select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
      • Test the Bluetooth toggle again in Settings and Quick settings.
    4. Update the Bluetooth driver
      • In Device Manager, under Bluetooth, right‑click the adapter and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
      • Complete the wizard and restart the PC if prompted.
      • Check if the toggle is still grayed out or if Settings still freezes.
    5. Check Airplane mode and Windows Update
      • Press Windows + A to open Quick settings and make sure Airplane mode is turned off.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates. Install all available updates, including any Bluetooth or system updates, then restart and test again.

If the issue persists after these steps, collect details about recent Windows updates or driver changes (especially just before the problem started) and use the Get Help app again to escalate with logs, since the behavior points to a deeper driver or system component conflict.
