Basic Plans vs Premium

My organisation has received the updates to basic plans which is great (such as talking within a task etc), but I wondered why these changes haven't been deployed to Teams Premium?

We are heavy uses of Sprints, which you cannot do in Basic plans. So it's catch 22.

Can you confirm when the changes are being applied to premium plans, or whether there is a way to use Sprints in basic plans?

Thank you
Jack

    Hi @Jack B

Thank you for your inquiry and have a nice day.

Based on the official Microsoft documentation I found, the new task chat experience was rolled out to Microsoft Planner basic plans first, while premium plans continue to use the existing task conversation experience for now. The article also states that premium plans will converge to the new experience at a later point in time.

Regarding your question about Sprints, the official comparison page confirms that Agile project management with backlogs and sprints is currently available only in premium plans and not in basic plans. I would like to share that there is no supported way at present to use Sprints in a basic plan.

It may also help to clarify that Microsoft Teams Premium and Microsoft Planner premium plans are described separately in Microsoft’s documentation. Microsoft Teams Premium is documented as adding advanced meeting, webinar, virtual appointment, and protection features, while sprint planning and the other advanced planning capabilities are documented under Microsoft Planner premium plans.

So, at the moment, if your team need to keep using Sprints, you will need to continue using a premium Planner plan for those scenarios.

I hope this helps clarify the current behavior. If you would like Microsoft to prioritize alignment between the new basic-plan experience and premium plans, the best and most effective way to make your voice heard on this is through the Microsoft Planner feedback channel. The product team relies on customer insights like yours to identify what needs to be improved and to prioritize future changes.

If there is any confirmed update, Microsoft will share it through the official public channels. For that reason, no one in the forum can confirm a timeline unless it has already been officially announced.

If the information above helps, you may mark the answer as accepted so it can also help other community members with the same question.

I appreciate your understanding and take time to raise your concerns.
