To transfer or add data from Google Sheets into Power BI, use the built-in Google Sheets connector in Power BI (Power Query).

Steps in Power BI Desktop (Power Query Desktop experience):

    1. Open Power BI Desktop.
    2. On the Home ribbon, select Get data.
    3. Search for and select Google Sheets.
    4. When prompted, paste the URL of the Google Sheet (copy it from the browser address bar while viewing the sheet).
    5. Select Sign in and authenticate with the Google account that has access to the sheet.
    6. Approve access in the Sign in with Google browser window.
    7. After successful sign-in, select Connect.
    8. In the Navigator window, select the sheet(s) you want.
      • Choose Load to bring the data directly into Power BI.
      • Choose Transform Data to open Power Query and clean/shape the data before loading.

Steps in Power BI Service / Power Query Online / Fabric Dataflow Gen2:

    1. In the dataflow or Power Query Online experience, go to Connect to data source.
    2. Select Google Sheets.
    3. Enter the Google Sheet URL.
    4. Select Sign in and authenticate with the Google account.
    5. After sign-in, select Next.
    6. On Choose data, select the sheet(s) to load.
    7. Select Transform data if data needs shaping in Power Query Editor, then save/load the dataflow or model.

    Key considerations:

    • The connector only supports Import mode (data is copied into Power BI).
    • The URL must start with https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ because the connector parses the spreadsheet ID from this pattern.
    • Each Google Sheet URL is treated as a separate connection (ResourcePath), so new sheets may require re-authentication.
    • Shared drives are supported as long as the Google account has access.

Once loaded, the Google Sheets data appears as a table in the Fields pane in Power BI Desktop or in the dataflow, and can be used in reports and visuals like any other data source.
