In Outlook, text predictions are no longer appearing when composing an email. Went to Options and checked box to allow predictions but still do not appear when composing a message. Please advise fix. Thank you!

Good day @Todd Theissen, and I appreciate the clear explanation of your concern.

Just to gently clarify before we go any further, this is a user‑to‑user support forum. I don’t have the ability to access or investigate individual accounts because this is a user to user support forum. Moderators and contributors, including external Microsoft employees, do not have access to internal systems or the ability to directly take action on Microsoft product features. However, I truly hope I can help review your situation, offer some guidance, and support you in finding the right next steps as best as possible.

Text Predictions in Outlook are part of a cloud based connected experience and may stop working due to several factors, depending on whether you are using a work or school account or a personal account. Since you haven’t specified your account type (work/school vs. personal), I may not be able to provide an exact solution yet. If you’re using a work account, please try the steps below. However, if you’re using a personal account, you can start from step 2 onward.

Make sure your operating system and Classic Outlook (File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now > Restart Outlook) are fully updated to the latest version.

Step 1: Check if your update channel supports Text Predictions

Text Predictions only work on supported update channels, so if your Outlook is on an unsupported one, the feature won’t appear even if enabled, supported channels include Current, Monthly Enterprise, Beta and Current Channel, while Semi-Annual Enterprise is not supported.

Go to File > Select Office Account > Review the Update Channel information.

    • If you are using a work or school account and your device is on a Semi-Annual channel, please contact your IT administrator and request switching to a supported channel such as Monthly Enterprise or Current Channel. After the change, run updates again and restart Outlook. In case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Step 2: Verify Connected Experiences settings

Text Predictions rely on cloud services and require certain privacy settings to be enabled.

Open Classic Outlook > Go to File > Select Office Account > Click Manage Settings under Account Privacy.

Ensure connected experiences, especially those that analyze your content, are enabled.

    • If these options are disabled or appear locked, they may be controlled by your organization. In that case, please reach out to your IT administrator for assistance.

Step 4: Repair the Outlook app

This article provides further guidance on the topic: Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

    Step 5: Reinstall office apps

Please uninstall Office apps, then reinstall them:

    Go to office.com > Apps > All apps > Install apps > Microsoft 365 apps > Apps & devices > Install Office.

In classic Outlook for Windows, this issue is usually caused by either the feature being disabled in Options or by the Outlook update channel you are on.

    1. Confirm the feature is enabled in classic Outlook
      1. Start composing a new email in classic Outlook.
      2. Select File > Options > Mail.
      3. Under Compose messages, ensure Show text predictions while typing is checked.
      4. Select OK and restart Outlook, then test again.
    2. Check whether your update channel supports text predictions Text predictions in classic Outlook are only available on these channels:
      • Current Channel
      • Monthly Enterprise Channel
      • Beta Channel
      • Current Channel Preview
The feature is not available on:
      • Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview)
      • Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel
If Outlook is on one of the Semi-Annual channels, text predictions will not appear even if the checkbox is enabled.
    3. Switch Office to a supported channel (if needed) If text predictions are required, switch Office to Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel using one of these methods (typically done by an admin):
    4. Be aware of recent fix status Text predictions for classic Outlook were restored on May 20, 2025 and are available again on the supported channels listed above. If Outlook is on one of those channels and fully updated, text predictions should work when enabled in Options.

For how to use the feature (accepting with Tab or Right arrow, turning it on/off in different Outlook versions), see Editor text predictions in Outlook.
