Excel Email Quick Access Toolbar

All default applications relating to email are now setup to the new Outlook. I cannot use the old Outlook anymore as it is attached to the prior company. In Excel, when I click the Email option from the Quick Access Toolbar, it opens the old Outlook. How do I fix this so Excel will open the attachment in the new Outlook and as an attachment, not as a shared OneDrive link?

    Hi @Kevin,

For your concern, at the moment, the Excel Email command in Quick Access Toolbar still relies on MAPI mail integration and the New Outlook does not fully support that path yet. Therefore, it is an expected behavior that Excel falls back to classic Outlook for the "send/share by email" actions when you choose the Email command.

Unfortunately, as of now, this is a known limitation and no supported way to make Excel's Email command to open New Outlook and send real attachment. the suggested workaround is to avoid using the Excel's Email button and instead attach the workbook from inside New Outlook when creating a new mail > choose Attach file > choose Browse This Computer and select the Excel file.

That said, Microsoft does have a roadmap item for this integration. Based on the latest update, the rollout will start from early September 2026, and the New Outlook will support sending locally stored Word/Excel/PowerPoint files as email attachments which aims to align with the classic Outlook functionality.
