Hello,

my school uses your authenticator app for authentication. It somehow logged out of my school email on the authenticator app and i cannot approve any new log ins (like now to see my work schedule) and if i try to log in into the school email on authenticator app IT ASKS PERMISSION TO LOG IN WITH APPROVAL FROM THE AUTHENTICATOR APP.

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. I understand that you ran into an issue with Microsoft Authenticator that is connected with your school account.

If your account is being managed by your school, you can check this with the IT admin or IT support to see if your account needs to be reset or if they will remove your account and you will add it back to the authenticator so that it can login again and receive codes the normal way.

    Hi @Ernesta Pleikytė,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

Regarding that you can't access your Microsoft account due to Microsoft authenticator.  I’d like to ask a few quick questions to better understand the situation and assist you more effectively:

Can you clarify whether you are an end user or an admin in your organization ?

If you are an end user, I would recommend you contact your school account's Admin to reset your MFA settings through the Microsoft Entra Admin Center. Ask your administrator to follow these steps:

Sign in to Microsoft Entra admin center with the admin account

    1. Go to Users
    2. Select the affected user account
    3. Open Authentication methods
    4. Revoke sessions
    5. Select Require re‑register MFA
    6. Save the changes

Revoke MFA sessions and require re-register in the Microsoft Entra admin center

Thank you again for your time and understanding. While my initial response may not resolve the issue immediately, I’d like to gather more details about your situation so I can assist you more effectively.

I really appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Looking forward to your response!

Because the school account is protected by Microsoft Authenticator, and the app no longer has that account registered, sign-in is stuck in a loop until another verification method or an admin reset is used.

Use these steps depending on what is available:

    1. Try another verification method
    • On the school sign-in page, after entering the email and password, select Use a different verification option or I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now (wording may vary).
    • If SMS, phone call, or email verification is configured as an additional method, choose that method to complete sign-in.
    • Once signed in, go to the security/MFA setup page for the school account and reconfigure Microsoft Authenticator as a verification method.
    1. If no other method works or is available
    • For a work/school account, only the organization’s IT/admin can reset MFA or clear old Authenticator registrations.
    • Contact the school’s IT/help desk and ask them to reset or clear the multifactor authentication methods for the account.
    • After they reset MFA, sign in again; the system will prompt to set up Microsoft Authenticator from scratch (scan QR code or sign-in in the app).
    1. If sign-in attempts are blocked
    • Multiple failed attempts can cause Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication to temporarily block further sign-ins. If this happens, wait and then try again, or use another MFA method if one exists.

Until the school IT resets MFA or another verification method is used, the loop where Authenticator asks for approval from itself cannot be broken.
