Something changed in my settings and I cannot locate any of my subfolders. The emails are there if I search, but no folders can be found.

    Hi Jane Woll

To better understand your situation, may I kindly clarify the following: is the subfolder visible in Outlook on the web?

If it is, you may consider trying the options below to see if they help:

    1. Close Classic Outlook completely > press Windows + R > copy and paste:  Outlook.exe /resetfolders
    2. Create a new Outlook profile
    3. Open Outlook in Safe Mode to rule out add-ins as the cause:  Press Windows + R, then type Outlook.exe /safe.

I hope this provides some direction. If you have any updates after trying these steps, please feel free to share.

In classic Outlook for Windows, if messages appear in search but the folders are missing or items seem “lost,” they may have been moved into a hidden or unexpected folder.

Use Advanced Find to locate and move the items back into visible folders:

    1. In Outlook, select the Inbox of the affected account.
    2. Click in the Instant Search box so the Search tab appears on the ribbon.
    3. On the Search tab, select Search Tools > Advanced Find.
    4. In Look for, choose Any type of Outlook item.
    5. Select Browse….
    6. In the folder tree, select only the root folder for the mailbox (typically shown as the email address). Clear Search subfolders.
    7. Select OK, then Find Now.
    8. In the results list, locate the messages that should be in your missing subfolders.
    9. For each group of items, right‑click, choose Move > Other Folder…, select a visible folder (or recreate your folder structure), and select OK.

If the items were placed directly in the root folder or another nonstandard location, this process surfaces them so they can be moved back into normal mail folders that appear in the Folder List.
